The core production process of organic fertilizer from pig manure

Pig manure has a fine texture, decomposes slowly, contains more organic matter and nutrients such as nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium, and is suitable for use as base fertilizer. Pig manure treatment is a key environmental protection technology, otherwise, it will cause environmental pollution. After pig manure is scientifically processed in the organic fertilizer production line and added to the organic fertilizer, it can achieve zero emissions, no odor, and turn manure into gold. The following are the key steps of the pig manure organic fertilizer production line:

1. Collect chicken manure

For small-scale farmers or farmers, hand collection is a simple and effective method. Clean the pig house regularly and collect pig manure into storage containers, such as compost piles and fermentation tanks.

2. Dewatering

Pig manure has high water content, heavy viscosity, and poor ventilation, so it cannot be fermented directly. It must be fermented after appropriate pretreatment. Generally, the dewatering machine can be used to reduce the moisture content of pig manure to less than 80%, and then an appropriate amount of wood chips, mushroom residue, wheat bran, rice husk, and other auxiliary materials can be added. Chicken manure can also be added to adjust moisture, ventilation, and carbon-nitrogen ratio, and control the moisture content of pig manure at about 60% (the specific material ratio is subject to actual conditions).

3. Fermentation

Next is fermentation treatment, which is the core step in organic material processing. The purpose of fermentation treatment is to decompose complex organic matter into simpler substances through the action of microorganisms, while killing pathogenic bacteria and insect eggs. During this process, factors such as temperature, humidity, and oxygen supply need to be strictly controlled to ensure the smooth progress of fermentation.

Fermentation treatment can not only improve the fertilizer efficiency of organic materials, but also reduce their volume to facilitate subsequent storage and transportation. At the same time, fermentation treatment can greatly reduce the number of harmful organisms in organic materials and reduce the risks of pests and diseases that may arise after fertilization.

1. Compost fermentation: Mix pig manure with straw, wood chips, etc., pile it into a fertilizer pile of a certain height and width, and use a compost turner to do it. This method is simple and easy to implement and suitable for smaller farmers or farms.

2. Organic fertilizer fermentation tank: Put pig manure into a closed fermentation tank, and use microorganisms to ferment by controlling ventilation, stirring, humidity, and other conditions. This method allows for better control of the fermentation process, speeds up fermentation, and reduces odor and volatile gas emissions.

4. Granulation

The granulation process is the core part of the production line. We offer four types of granulation equipment(rotary drum granulator, disc granulator, flat die pellet mill, and ring die pellet mill) to meet your needs. Its granulation quality is high, its shape is uniform, and its purity is as high as 100%. Unlike traditional organic fertilizer production methods, it can make your production process more efficient and energy-saving.

5. Drying and cooling

We offer rotary drum dryers and rotary drum coolers for drying and cooling pig manure organic fertilizers. Rotary dryers use hot air to reduce the moisture content of fertilizers. After drying, the moisture content of organic fertilizer is reduced from 20%-30% to 2%-5%. The new combined lifting plate is used to avoid the material wind tunnel phenomenon and help improve heating efficiency. 

The material cooler has become an indispensable and important part of the entire fertilizer processing process. Through the cooling process, the material removes about three percent of its moisture. It can also be combined with a rotary dryer to remove dust and purify waste gas, which can improve cooling efficiency and heat energy utilization, reduce labor intensity, and further remove moisture from fertilizers.

6. Screening

After cooling, there is still powdery material in the finished product. All fine powders and large particles can be screened out using our rotary drum screener. Then, the fine powder is transported back to the horizontal mixer by the belt conveyor, remixed with the raw materials, and re-granulated. Large particles need to be crushed in a chain crusher and then granulated. The semi-finished product is transported to the organic fertilizer packaging machine. This forms a complete production cycle.

7. Packing

8. QC

  • The particle size of pig manure and auxiliary materials should be below 10mm, otherwise, they need to be crushed.
Appropriate Moisture Content
  • The suitable fermentation humidity for composting microorganisms is 50-60%, with a maximum humidity of 60-65%. Therefore, the moisture content of the materials should be adjusted to around 55-60%. When the moisture content exceeds 65%, there is a higher chance of fermentation failure.
Adjusting Moisture Content
  • The moisture content of fermented pig manure, chicken manure, and other livestock and poultry manure should be controlled between 55-65%.
Moisture Assessment
  • Grab a handful of pig manure tightly, and if watermarks are visible in the gaps between fingers but no dripping occurs when it falls to the ground, it is appropriate. Insufficient moisture leads to slow fermentation, while excessive moisture hampers ventilation.
  • Therefore, it is crucial to maintain the right moisture content. If the moisture is too high, materials such as straw, sawdust, mushroom residue, and dry soil powder can be added.
  • The entire fermentation process usually takes 5-7 days to complete the deodorization, fermentation, maturation, insect and microbial sterilization. Ensure thorough mixing and ventilation.
Control of Pig Manure and Auxiliary Materials
  • According to local agricultural conditions, organic materials such as straw, corn stalks, and peanut stems can be used as auxiliary materials.
  • The ratio of pig manure to auxiliary materials can be adjusted based on the required fermentation moisture (generally 3:1). Composting materials with a carbon-nitrogen ratio of 20-80:1 are suitable.
  • Therefore, common organic materials in rural areas such as dry straw, corn stalks, fallen leaves, soybean stems, and peanut stems can be used as composting auxiliary materials after grinding.
Fermentation Cycle
  • After mixing pig manure, auxiliary materials, and inoculants in the fermentation tank, the first turning is considered the start of the fermentation cycle. It usually goes through a 3-4 day warming period (5-7 days in winter) before entering the high-temperature fermentation stage.
  •  Based on temperature, when the heap temperature exceeds 60-70°C and remains at that level for more than 24 hours, the compost can be turned using a compost turner. The number of turnings varies with the seasons. The fermentation cycle is generally 15 days in summer and 25 days in winter.
  •  If, after 10 days in the tank, the temperature inside the fermentation tank has not exceeded 40°C, it can be determined as a failed fermentation.
  • At this point, the moisture inside the tank should be measured. If the moisture exceeds 60%, additional auxiliary materials and inoculants need to be added. If the moisture is below 60%, the adequacy of the inoculation materials should be considered.
